CleanO2 Bar Soap Contains Captured Carbon

Canadian "cleantech" company’s device captures carbon dioxide and turns it into pearl ash for cold-processed body bars.

CleanO2, a Canadian company, is selling a line of soap that cleans people while it also helps clean the climate of carbon dioxide.

The Calgary-based “cleantech” company's small-scale carbon capture device—known as CarbinX—captures carbon dioxide from building heating systems and transforms the greenhouse gas into pearl ash, which is then used in CleanO2 soap bars.

Each CarbinX device currently reduces the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by 6 to 8 tons annually, according to CleanO2.

The Eco Aloe Body Bar is one of seven body bars produced by CleanO2. It is an unscented bar formulated with captured carbon, shea butter, aloe and coconut milk.

"CleanO2 is a company that's sole purpose is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the heating industry. We're capturing carbon, and we're converting it into consumer goods," said Jaeson Cardiff, CEO.

The bar soaps also contain natural and upcycled ingredients. CleanO2 is using cold processing to produce the bars, which are 100% vegan, biodegradable, never tested on animals and free of palm oil, phthalates, paraben, sulphates and artificial color.

Available in Enviro Mint, Eco Aloe, Montane Meadow, Activated Charcoal, Earthly Almond, Renewable Rose, Sustainable Spice and Restoration Scrub, the bars are available for sale online and in select retailers including Safeway, Sobeys and Canadian Tire.

CleanO2 says it expects to launch more products including haircare, shaving bars, stain remover and a line of cleaning detergents.
